Ingredients

Bread:
  • 1 cup white granulated sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1 egg room temperature
  • 1 cup milk room temperature
  • cup butter melted
  • 2 large apples or 3 small peeled and grated
  • ½ tablespoon vanilla
Glaze (optional):
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • tablespoons water
  • Splash of vanilla

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk or hand mixer
  • Loaf pan (9x5-inch)
  • Parchment paper
  • Grater (for apples)

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and line a loaf pan with parchment paper.
  2. Combine sugar, flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the egg, milk, butter, and vanilla until combined.
  4. Add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients. Fold in the grated apple, being careful not to overmix.
  5. Pour the mixture into the pan, then sprinkle with brown sugar.
  6. Bake for 60 minutes or until golden brown, or until the internal temperature reaches 200–205°F.
  7. Let it cool, then top with the glaze!

Notes

For extra flavor, add a pinch of nutmeg or cloves to the batter.
Try using half white sugar and half brown sugar for a deeper flavor.
Store leftovers wrapped at room temperature for up to 2 days, or freeze slices for later.
Check doneness with a toothpick in the center; if it comes out clean, it’s ready.
